A one-day workshop facilitated by Ken Bourke
Saturday 28th April 2012, 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
The Heritage Council,Church Lane, Kilkenny. |
“There’s no place like home.” Or is there? What makes the difference between a house and a home? Is “Home” the name you give to a particular place you lived when you were a child? Or is it a feeling you look for wherever you go; an atmosphere that you are driven by instinct to seek out and recreate?
These are some of the questions that Ken Bourke will be posing at a workshop in Kilkenny on Saturday 28th April.
The day will be structured around a number of creative explorations of time and place. There will be a mixture of individual activities and group discussions. The workshop will be of particular appeal to people with an interest in creative writing. Numbers will be limited to encourage full participation by all present.
“Whatever your perspective, the idea of Home is a powerful symbol that resonates with the deepest levels of our consciousness.” says Ken Bourke, “The aim of the workshop is to develop your awareness of what “Home” means to you. It is part of a creative awareness of human space that is emerging through Western Psychology, with a little help from Feng Shui and the traditional philosophy of the East.”
“You will be encouraged to re-evaluate what you put into your home, and to identify what you expect your home to do for you. Along the way, you’ll be invited to explore your memories and dreams of home. One of the goals is to deepen your understanding of your relationship with different homes, both in the past and in the present; for example, you’ll be asked to reflect on how you express yourself through your current home. My hope is that people will gain a lot of insight into what is the best way, for them, to make a new home or to re-invent an existing one.”
The venue for this unique day is the former Bishop’s Palace, now the headquarters of the Heritage Council, a beautiful building in Kilkenny city, which was home to the Church of Ireland Bishops of Ossory and their families for many years.
